The problem is many have used HDR to make over edited or even downright ugly photographs that will never wow viewers. They simply don’t understand what their using. Because of that it has gotten a bit of a stigma and many are not harnessing it’s power. In truth HDR is about range. It’s today’s super tool of light and something that every serious photographer should understand. Whatever place you’re at with your photography, you’ll step up to another level during this three day workshop led by award winning photographer Gavin Seim. It doesn’t matter if your looking for a style that’s modern and bold, or if you’re a veteran from the film days, looking to make classic images. This workshop is about light dynamics. You’ll learn how to dominate that light and make HDR happen when and where you need it. Attendees have come from as far as London for Gavin’s HDR workshop, and it’s here once again.
Gavin’s Seim, owner of Seim Stuido’s in Lakeview WA and founder of the Pro Photo Show, is a photographer that’s young, energetic and renowned for his experience with elegant high dynamic range images. Gavin’s HDR has been featured in published works such as Rick Sammon’s Digital Wedding Secrets, various podcasts, Venue magazine, The Good Life and more. Gavin also writes the HDR column on PPS and is constantly experimenting with leveraging dynamic range and light in today’s digital images. You’ll learn more than basic technique however. Cinematic composition, where and how to use HDR, making the most of your image without over editing, harnessing dynamic range on single images and more.

Things you should, know: The group will be working in the field during shooting excursions throughout the region of the workshop, then following thru to final edits that make your images come to life. You’ll learn techniques for efficiently editing all types of HDR, adding the tricks to your arsenal to give your images a cinematic feel that goes beyond a photo and into the realm of fine art. Meals, lodging and gear are not provided. There are no previous skill “requirements”, but ideally you should have a digital SLR, a tripod, a computer and at least basic editing and photographic skills. We also recommend a photo editing program like Photoshop (or similar) and an HDR tool like Photomatix (You can save 15% with code: PPS15). HDR Essentials. Light, Shadow & Super Powers – The Mini workshop:
HDR essentials Gavin’s a stripped down HDR workshop. Without the live shoots and multi day education, it’s a mini 2-6 hour presentation. While it in no way replaces an in depth collaborative education of the Incredible HDR workshop, it’s a great way to get started in this powerful manipulation of light.
A look at the critical elements of making High Dynamic Range images that are timeless, balanced and beautiful. From editing modern multi image HDR, to the discussion of single image dynamic range and light control, using today’s photographic tools. HDR Essentials will give attendees critical concepts behind dynamic range and tips for avoiding pitfalls in the manipulation and management of light and shadow.
HDR essentials of great for people wanting to learn about HDR, or who are already using it but want to refine their technique. Gavin will talk about the basics of HDR, situations to use it in, how to avoid stereotype and over edited HDR’s and even do actual edits to give attendees a primer on working with their own images.
