Getting Serious > Dynamic Range & HDR

My first HDR attempt...

(1/1)

SammySpencer:
Hey, folks!

I have been reading a few tutorials online (as well as viewing many of your awesome HDR photographs here!), but have not attempted HDR yet.  I finally broke down and purchased Photomatix and gave it a try.

Attached is my first attempt.  This is a photo I took last night.  I'm trying to avoid the "psychedelic" appearance that many first-time HDR enthusiasts do, but am trying for more of a realistic photographic effect.  While I wonder whether the color saturation should be pumped up a bit, I felt this was a worthwhile first attempt.

I am quite open to any constructive criticism about the HDR technique as well as how to best bracket exposures.  (These particular three exposures encompass a range of four stops; is that considered too wide an exposure range?)

Thanks for your feedback, and thanks for being part of this awesome community Gavin has created!

Most sincerely,

Sammy Spencer

I know next to nothing about HDR but this looks pretty good to me.  Not to "over-HDR'd".  Looks good.

Hard to see anything to nitpick at this small size.  HDR or not, it is a great image.  Very busy lines, but the night sky keeps it much more monochrome and simple.  I like it.

To much saturation will bring to much life to something that is winter dead. I would leave it as it is, and sell it. Would make a great poster background for a HP movie or that Twilight movie everyone is melting for lately :tongue3:
