Here's this weeks show... I had fun. It was neat to do a releaxed classic style episode and just talk about ideas and news.

http://www.prophotoshow.net/blog/2008/09/10/pro-photography-podcast-50-suprassing-expectations/

Lets keep the discussion going. What do you think about all these new cameras, Adobe, Purple Cow's etc.  headbang

Nice show Gav.  Thanks for keeping the rants in check with out us there to settle you down. Grin

On the Canon 5D MarkII front, Canon better come up HUGE with this camera now that they've got that little teaser ad going.  It's got a lot of people talking so it better not disappoint!  Will it live up to the hype?  For you die hard Canon shooters I hope so.

Unless Adobe introduces some unforeseen "must have" feature in PS CS4, I can't see myself upgrading this soon.

Thanks DZ. Ya I knew I'd keep the rants short. There's some people who rant like crazy when I do them... Ironic!

Your right about that 5D. I think it will be nice, but I have a feeling it's getting over hyped. To meet the hype it would have to be better than the D700.

That said I'm really looking forward to it. Setting coin aside so I don't have to use credit to get one Roll Eyes

By the way. I seriously like my light saber. I got the skywalker one, but then found the made Windu one was a lot cooler, so now I'll have two  headbang

Good show Congrats on the 50th.  headbang
On the Nikon D90, is really heavily aimed at newspapers. This is the perfect set up for a reporter. This is in someways bad for photojournalist. I would say about 75% of my editorial shoots now require video for online as well. This camera would meet the needs of newspapers to get a couple video clips online. The bad news for photojournalists is this means one more nail in the coffin. Photographers are at the top of the execution list at papers. BangHead

In terms of the Purple cow, I was taught to under promise over deliver. For regular clients they get gift baskets that are done in trade with another client for xmas and I try to send out thank you notes after a job is done. Cool I could make a some jokes about the light saber, but at my main computer I have Spawn, Macross, Raydeen, and two remote helicopters for dog fighting.

I enjoyed the "classic" episode.  Your wife did a nice job on the intro.  She has a lovely voice.

By the way, I agree with you on the DRM issue and I actually like the longer podcasts.  My commute is about 45 minutes each way, so I spend about 7 hours a week in the car and photography-related podcasts are my favorite way of passing the time.

Thanks for the comments, and welcome. Sondra will be sooo glad you liked her intro. Intro announcers tend to be an under recognized part of a show, and she occasionally asks "did anyone comment on the intro" Then I feel bad because she does a nice job.

Glad you like the longer one's. I suppose balance is the key, but the people who get peeved about longer shows are just grouchy I guess. I do feel I need to work on honing my broadcast voice to have a bit more life.

Good discussion in today's show about speaking with the Priest/Pastor/Officiant about the photography rules during the ceremony.  Most of them can give you at least one horror story about a photographer who placed "getting a great shot" over the sanctity of the ceremony.

Often the couple will meet with the Priest or Pastor several times in preparation for the wedding.  I ask the couple to discuss the photography rules with their minister, so that they know what to expect, and the minister can see the value the couple places on the photography.  I then follow up with the minister, make sure I hear the rules first hand, and then confirm the understanding with the couple.

This avoids unpleasant surprises on the wedding day.  That's not the time for the bride to learn that "no photos are allowed".

As noted in the podcast, communication is the key

I agree! Give Sondra some recognition for doing a great job! And she does have a nice radio/podcast voice Smiley

I was listening to this episode and it caused me to register and post. I myself am not so upset with the DRM as much as I am upset with Adobe's lack of support. I bought CS2, then I bought CS3, and I bought LIghtroom. I have  been having problems opening raws with lightroom and editing them with cs3, with my 20D. It will not let me edit with lightroom adjustments, cs3 will not open. Adobe just has me reinstall, Still no worky. Then I get a G10 from my wife and guess what lightroom works but CS3 is not supported you need ACR 5.2 Which I have to buy CS4 for. So now for those of us that get new cameras have to budget in 600 bucks for a new photoshop. Right now I don't want to spend the extra for the new features of CS4, but Adobe is going to force us to. For a program of this price you would think you would get more than 18 months of product support. CS3 released march of 07, and cs4 released oct 08

Ya i know. there's another thread on here about that. It is kinda rotten of them to break support so soon.

Bottom line is that Adobe is too big for it's britches. I've had my rants about that too. Their cust service has gone in the toilet, and basically they do whatever they want because their are the only BIG contender. They need serious competition.

Though on the note of opening G10 files in CS3. Isn't there a setting in LR to have the LR raw engine render the file before opening on PS? I though there was, but maybe not.
