Streamline Moderne
« on: May 12, 2012, 07:13:42 PM »
Nikon D700 – Nikkor 24-70mm – at 38mm – f/3.5 – 1/160 sec – ISO 200

Streamline Moderne harkens back to a turbulent time in history. The Great Depression was in full swing and WWII was on the horizon. Gone were the frills of Art Deco and the Roaring 20′s. Design took on a more streamlined, aerodynamic pure-line concept and this 1940′s Olds was no exception.

Enjoy the nice center composition. Though in truth I like the write up a little better than the image. I would like to see a bit more space and I think it could be refined a good deal with tonal control.

Spent a good deal of time burning the background trees down and dodging the Olds to bring your eye to the subject. I can see your point that overall the subject is mostly in the same tonal range with pockets of lighter and darker tones. It did print very nicely however using fine art metallic paper bonded to canvas at a 20x24. When the light hits it from the window, on my family room wall, it really pops the subject. Thanks for the input Gavin! Great forum.

Agreed, I could see that it would. Simple scenes with a clear solid subject and tonal control on those back trees. I Imagine it looks great in a print. keep it up.
