Scanning on the V700
« on: September 12, 2011, 03:18:25 PM »
Really liking the Epson V700 for Neg scanning. It's not quite what a drum scan is, bit for a $500'ish unit it's pretty impressive.

I'm going to try a wet scanning adapter for it from these guys... http://www.betterscanning.com. Word on the street is that should help with dust and even increase the scan quality. We'll see.

Have you done any wet scanning with you V700 yet? I am thinking that might be the way to go.

Not yet. We left for the winter doing pictorials. But I plan to get those aftermarket film holders this year and try them out.

Idiot students + Aztek Wet scan kit = Dead V750

I'm not the authority by any means on wet scanning, but I've been frustrated enough with residue left on my negs and scanner bed to not want to do it. Plus not done right, without a scanner platform to mount your neg to, and you mount directly to the bed, if that liquid, no matter how quickly it evaporates, gets on your scanner eye/bar bye bye scanner.  That was what happened here, get a new wet scan kit, not careful people use it, the scanner can no longer calibrate colors and we've got big blue bars running across every frame. Hence, dead V750.

Just my $0.02 worth, but if you get things up and running it would be great to see some 100% crop selections for comparison.

All the best-

Wet does seem messy, but I like the advantages it's said to give. Dust is a bane on dry negs.

The Better Scan wet station is said to be self contained, but direct on the glass. People seem ti dig it... http://www.betterscanning.com/scanning/mstation.html
